Some Congressmen, including Joseph Cao (R-New Orleans) who is a co-author, are pushing to create a new class of crimes based on the victim's "actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity." Under such "hate-crime" laws, pastors could be prosecuted for preaching the biblical view of homosexuality. Similar laws have been used to prosecute religious speech in the U.S. and abroad. The U.S. House Judiciary Committee is expected to take up the legislation — H.R. 1913 — this week. Gene Mills, president of LFF Action, said the legislation "creates ‘thought crimes’ instead of crimes against persons. All people deserve to be protected from actual and not perceived crimes, not just certain groups.”

LFF Action: Contact LA Congressman Cao and ask him to remove his name as a co-sponsor of the "hate crimes" (HR 1913) legislation.  Let him know that Louisiana is in favor or equality under the law, not special privileges.  Congressman Cao can be reached by clicking here.

The mother of a 12-year-old girl whose pro-life speech has become a hit YouTube video says her daughter's passion for the unborn is genuine.

Lia is a preteen from Canada who decided to speak out against abortion in her school's speech contest, despite teachers and school officials who encouraged her to pick a different topic.

"What if I told you that right now someone was choosing if you were going to live or die? What if I told you that this choice wasn't based on what you could or couldn't do, what you had done in the past, or what you would do in the future? And what if I told you [that] you could nothing about it? Fellow students and teachers, thousands of children are right now in that very situation," she says in her speech.
